HOBO CODE – AUDIO DRAMA WINS TWO SIGNAL AWARDS!

Los Angeles, CA/New York, NY – Hobo Code, the debut podcast from Hammer Canyon Productions, created by podcaster Paul Pakler and Emmy-nominated writer Shane Portman, won 2024 Bronze Signal Awards for Best Writing (Fiction) and Best Limited Series (Fiction/Drama). Hobo Code was also the winner of the 2024 Ear Worthy Independent Podcast Awards for Best Audio Fiction.

Hobo Code Hobo Code is a four-part, limited series about two hobos, a little girl and her best friend who lives in a coffee can. It stars Becky Poole (AppleTV’s Strange Planet), Corey Rieger (Out of the Furnace), and Jake Robertson (The Sound of Liberty on Apple Podcasts), with Susan Ruttan (L.A. Law, Shameless, Man on the Inside) and Bill Pullman (The Sinner, Independence Day, While You Were Sleeping).

In these high-anxiety times where everything is rushed, Hobo Code is a folksy, slow-cooked, magical-realist period piece. It spans from the Roaring Twenties to the Great Depression to the Great Recession of 2008, in an examination of human cycles, whether it’s generational trauma or economic crises. The story doesn’t shy away from the truth – that the moments in life that we try so hard to run from often end up shaping our lives.

The series begins in 1934, when eight-year-old Elizabeth “Buts” Wyland enlists the help of Gadabout Jack, an acerbic rambler, and Brother Isaac, a self-ordained monk, to run away from her aunt and uncle’s Alabama farm. The three travel America on a quixotic search for Buts’ parents in California.

It also features immersive sound design from Emmy-nominated sound designer Jackie! Zhou (Godless) with the award-winning audio-post-production studio One Thousand Birds and an original soundtrack composed by Maesa Pullman and engineered by Jason Hiller of Electrosound Records, featuring a full spectrum of folk, blues, and jazz music.

Listen to the series on Apple, Spotify, or Libsyn.
